Astronomically, eclipses remain part of a large Saros cycle, repeating every 18 years 11 days and 8 hours bringing significance to a common thread of issues and situations. Different Saros “families” spiral over 1200 years beginning from one of the poles, spiraling across the world to the other pole.
Eclipses happen when the Sun, Moon and Earth align, meaning, the luminaries — sun and moon — are within a range of degrees from the lunar nodal points. These two lunar nodal points are intersections where the moon and sun’s orbital paths cross. The lunar nodal cycle of 18-months has a descending node, heading south. It’s referred to as the South Node and originated in ancient Vedic astrology as Ketu, the Dragons Tail . The opposite nodal point ascends north. It’s referred to as the North Node or Rahu, the Dragons Head.
