Motown great joins Holly Holmquist Sept. 18th

Holly HolH Holmquist 2mquist, host of Open Conversations, is pleased to announce that Eddie Watkins Jr., musician, author, speaker and recording artist, will be joining her on the show September 18th from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Eddie was born in Detroit, and was given a piano at age seven by his grandmother who recognized his musical talent. He turned out to be a gifted musician and composer, playing piano, bass, guitar, drums and sax in junior high and high school. Eddie’s true love was the bass guitar and by age 17 he continued this dream by playing bass for Motown’s Norman Whitfield, supporting artists like the Temptations, The Undisputed Truth, and other famous artists.

When Motown moved to LA, Eddie left Detroit, moved to Hollywood and made a name for himself as a premier “A list” session bass player. He lent his rock solid bass licks to recordings by Quincy Jones, Barbra Streisand, Herbie Hancock, Santana, Patti LaBelle, Diana Ross, Marvin Gaye, the Pointer Sisters, and James Brown.

Success and the fast life led Eddie to substance abuse, then eventually recovery and a spiritual search for deeper meaning. He had a spiritual awakening and a call to serve humanity through music. Since then, Eddie has served as musical director at the Center for Spiritual Living greater Las Vegas and the Center for Spiritual Living Seattle. Today with six CDs of original, life-altering, high-consciousness music under his belt, Eddie is on tour across America raising the vibration of the planet with his music.

Eddie is also writing a book, Motown & Miracles, and is the keynote speaker at many of the Centers he visits. He has recorded with Marvin Gaye, Quincy Jones, James Brown, Santana, Cher, Diana Ross, Herbie Hancock, Pattie Labelle, The Pointer Sisters, Peter Frampton, Gato Barbieri, The Temptations, Phyllis Hyman, Norman Conners, Thelma Houston, Nancy Wilson and more.  When asked about the meaning of his work, Eddie replied, “I know what my life purpose is, to share this music with the world.”
