It’s here! Friday, July 18 at 9:30PM through Friday, July 25 5:00 AM a major traffic event will occur on Westbound I-90 that will affect virtually all Greater Seattle area traffic. The lane closures will affect traffic on many of the Eastside’s key commute corridors including I-405 and State Route 520. WSDOT is urging drivers to make alternate plans such as carpooling, vanpooling, busses , telecommute ,try using an alternate route, or adjust your schedule to take advantage of off-peak travel times.
Traffic engineers estimate the best times to travel will be before 6 a.m., between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and after 7 p.m. Engineers say more than half of the 85,000 drivers that use westbound I-90 each day will need to change the way they commute to keep travel times at one hour or less from Issaquah to Seattle. You might consider getting a temporary good to go pass and use 520 during the work.
The westbound I-90 HOV lane will be open to all between I-405 and the east entrance to the center roadway.
With these major backups on many roadways you’ll really want to plan extra time into your travels, use alternate routes or different travel times, carpool, or take mass transit. You can always get the latest traffic information right here on the Alternative Talk 1150 Web site, just click Traffic under “local” on the top banner.
