The Husky women are back on the air here at Alternative Talk 1150, and this year’s team is loaded with talent, experience and depth for new head coach Mike Neighbors. Two-time All-Pac-12 junior guard Jazmine Davis will lead the Dawg attack, and joining Jaz in the backcourt will be high school All-American freshman Kelsey Plum, along with veteran sophomore Talia Walton and junior Aminah Williams down low. Also back is fully recovered redshirt freshman center Katie Collier, as well as senior guard Mercedes Wetmore, sophomore forward Heather Corral and Arizona’s high school player-of-the-year, freshman center Chantel Osahor.

There’s nothing like beating your rival at their own game, and that’s exactly what the Husky women did to Oregon on Monday (3/24/14) by knocking off the Ducks on their home floor 93-85, to advance to the Sweet-16 of this year’s Women’s NIT Tournament. Kelsey Plum, Jazmine Davis and Talia Walton led a furious 2nd half comeback, and along with a team record 16 3-point baskets, never looked back as they left Oregon in the dust in the final few minutes. With the win, the Dawgs earned a home court matchup against San Diego on Wednesday (3/26/14), and had to fight hard to grind out another 62-55 win to move on to the Elite 8. Aminah Williams stole the show as she grabbed a career high 17 rebounds, while Kelsey Plum continued to impress with 21 points to surpass 700 points for the season, and become the all-time leading freshman scorer in the Pac-12 Conference.

The Huskies are definitely on a role, and now head to the Lone Star state to take on the University of Texas at El Paso this coming Monday in a quarter final match-up for this year’s Women’s National Invitational Tournament. The winner then moves on to the WNIT Final Four. Game time is set for 6PM with the Husky Courtside Show beginning at 5:30PM right here on Alternative Talk 1150…AND LET’S GO DAWGS
